ARCHBISHOP of CANTERBURY'S
MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE
OF NORWAY

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has sent his prayers and sympathy to the people of Norway following the tragic events in Oslo and Utøya last Friday.

His message is as follows:

"Along with all the faithful of the Church of England, I want to express my deepest sympathy with the people of Norway in the wake of the appalling events of recent days. Norway has played so great a part over many years in international reconciliation as well as developing its own distinctive national ethos of openness and fairness, and it is a special tragedy that it should suffer this outbreak of senseless carnage. Our prayers are with all those who died and all those who mourn them; and we are grateful for the many signs of strength and spiritual maturity that the Norwegian people have shown in their response to evil and destructiveness."

(The Church of England and the Church of Norway are in communion, as a result of the Porvoo Agreement.

How wonderful to hear from Maurice again and to click on your Christmas message.
.
Yes, Maurice, sorry, Your Arch Gracefulness, I too miss our friends and contact with them. However, today I received a lovely Christmas card sent from Ian on his visit over to Wales to see his stepmother.
.
I hope we can all share news and contact again soon. I apologize for not being better at keeping in touch. Not coming home all year has taken its toll (not that I am in any way like Eeyore you understand!). However, with airline prices as they are and four people to pay flights for it is just too expensive to come home at the moment. Sarah keeps telling me to go myself for a short break but I am always reluctant to do that. I don’t want to leave her and the guys here while I come back and enjoy all of your company and the delights of Toronto—if Toronto is indeed still delightful that is.

Have attached a Christmas letter which Sarah has written to give you all a brief update on what is happening with us. There are some small photos in the letter so you can see what we all look like now—but small enough you can’t see the gray hairs I’m getting!

I hope everybody has a lovely Christmas and let’s hope 2011 will see more lovely contact between us all. Although I always have contact with you in my prayers.

Thank you Maurice for you message,
Terrance+

P.S. I’ve indulged myself and put the + after my name because you will all understand what it means. Unfortunately, the Church of England does not have this practice and to put the + after one’s name suggests delusions of wanting Episcopal office!

ALICE IN THE WONDERLAND
SEND CHRISTMAS GREETINGS
.
.
Dear Sarah, Terrance, Andrew, Joshua and Friends. It may have been a faux pas, however I have done it: I clicked ‘reply all’.

Terrance, I enjoyed our talk on the telephone when J, L, S and I were in London. You were at the cottage years ago, so you will recognize that the photo was taken on the hill by the old cottage. S A and J need to come one day as well: certainly by the time the boys are old enough to learn to drive the ATV.

Attached is the Medcof Christmas letter. It comes with our love, and with our respect for the great work each of you do in God’s church.

Alice and Jamie.

PAUL THE OCTOPUS
PREDICTED OVER SPAIN,
AND SPAIN WON.
.
.
An octopus in Germany has given his final prediction for the World Cup. Could he be right once again?!.Paul, who lives in an aquarium in the city of Oberhausen, has so far got every Germany result right during the competition, even when he predicted Germany would crash out to Spain..
.
His keepers put two glasses in his tank showing the flags of the two teams that are playing and Paul has to pick a tasty snack from the winner's glass..
.
This time he's predicted Spain will win the World Cup! And Spain won the Cup!!!.

CHURCH & FOOTBALL
(Soccer)
.
.
The Church of England has prepared prayers for the upcoming World Cup tournament in South Africa! They were written by the Bishop of Croydon in association with the Revd Peter Moger, the National Worship Development Officer, and are for personal use or for use during church services.
.
I am pleased to see that they are sufficiently neutral in wording to be able to be used in this diocese in Europe, since, alongside England, the following European countries will be competing: Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland. There are three prayers, including one "for those who are not particularly interested in the World Cup", which is no-one in our diocese, of course!.
.
Lord of all the nations, who played the cosmos into being, guide, guard and protect all who work or play in the World Cup. May all find in this competition a source of celebration, an experience of common humanity anda growing attitude of generous sportsmanship to others. Amen...
.
God of the nations, who has always called his people to be a blessing for the world, bless all who take part in the World Cup. Smile on South Africa in her hosting, on the nations represented in competition andon those who travel to join in the party. Amen...
.
A prayer for those simply not interested: Lord, as all around are gripped with World Cup fever, bless us with understanding, strengthen us with patience andgrant us the gift of sympathy if needed. Amen..
